Once again, Bangtan asserts their position as a global pop powerhouse.
On January 28, BTS appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden for the debut performance of their latest track, “Black Swan”, from their upcoming album, Map of the Soul: 7.
The pre-release single was released earlier this month on January 17, its lo-fi hip-hop and heavy trap beat in contrast to the accompanying art film having left fans to anticipate what a BTS performance might look like. Dressed in all black, the South Korean pop titans delivered an artistic contemporary-inspired performance against a twilight forest background. Notably, the group danced barefoot, marking a personal first.
The members also had a brief chat with James Corden about their recent appearance at the Grammys as the first South Korean act to perform at the U.S. awards ceremony as part of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road All-Star” collaborative stage. BTS also talked about their upcoming album and tour. Thankfully, they were spared of being asked who they would like to collaborate with next.
The show concluded with a competitive game of hide and seek between James Corden and fellow guest Ashton Kutcher, the group challenged to find a hiding place within studio grounds.
If RM hadn’t pointed out Jungkook’s clever hiding spot, who knows how long the little one could’ve gone unnoticed.
This most recent episode of the late-night talk show marks BTS’ third appearance, having performed “DNA” and “Fake Love” respectively in the past.
It has been speculated that Corden and the group have recorded a Carpool Karaoke segment for a future episode. Earlier, Twitter was ablaze with viral Tweets about spotting a vehicle big enough to seat the septet and an alleged confirmation by the host himself during the show’s recording.
The group is currently preparing for their comeback with their upcoming album Map of the Soul: 7 set to drop on February 21 ahead of the world tour. In the lead up to the album’s release, BTS has teased fans with “Interlude: Shadow” comeback trailer, the launch of global art project CONNECT, BTS, and pre-release single “Black Swan” and its accompanying art film.
